Welcome to Ashwick Parish Ashwick is a rural Mendip Parish centred on the twin villages of Ashwick and Oakhill; with Gurney Slade. Ashwick is the more ancient settlement but Oakhill is now the larger, having grown up originally round the site of a renowned brewery. The Roman Fosse Way passes along the eastern boundary of the parish, climbing to the wooded eminence of Beacon Hill, the second highest point on the Mendips. Although history can be read in the landscape at every step, the parish contains a network of thriving communities: churches, pubs, a school, farms, small businesses, and many people who choose to live in this beautiful part of the Somerset countryside and commute to nearby towns.
